CATFIGHTS AND SPOTLIGHTS Sugababes brit lányegyüttes hatodik stúdióalbuma, amelyet az Island Records adott ki 2008. október 17-én. Az albumot elsősorban Klas Åhlund, Steve Booker és Orson készítette, az albumon Si Hulbert, The Invisible Men, Melvin Kuiters és Max Martin is közreműködik. Ez a csoport utolsó albuma, amelyen Keisha Buchanan is szerepel.

HÁTTÉR

Miután 2008 májusában befejezték Change turnéjukat, a Sugababes bejelentette, hogy csak 2008 szeptemberében mennek vissza a stúdióba, hogy a következő albumukon dolgozzanak, és ragaszkodtak ahhoz, hogy több időre van szükségük a 2009-es kiadáshoz szükséges új anyagukon való munkához. 2008 júniusában azonban a banda tagja, Keisha Buchanan azt mondta egy kérdezőnek, hogy a csapat azonnal új albumon kezd dolgozni, mivel lehetőség nyílik új producerekkel történő felvételre, és június 17-én a trió elkezdte a felvételeket. A produkció felgyorsult, miután az olasz zenészek, Melvin Kuiters és Si Hulbert új számot hoztak az Island Records-hoz, amely Ernie K-Doe „Here Come the Girls” című soul-funk dalának mintájára épült, amelyet „tökéletes járműnek” tartottak a Sugababes hatodik stúdióalbumához. Kevesebb, mint egy hónappal később, az éves Liverpool Summer Pops rendezvényen Liverpoolban bejelentették, hogy a vezető kislemez elkészült, és "elképesztőnek" minősítették. Egy interjúban a Sugababes úgy jellemezte a Catfights and Spotlights-t, hogy lágyabb és érettebb hangzású, és főleg az énekhangjukra összpontosít. Az albumot Range is sötétebbnek minősítette.

KRITIKA

Az AllMusic szerkesztője, Matthew Chisling a Catfights and Spotlights-t a „csoport eddigi legerősebb fellépésének” nevezte. Úgy érezte, az album „a művészi érdemek új dimenziójába vitte a bandát, kifogástalan dalszerzői képességeket és virágzó hangszereléseket villant fel a makulátlan produkciónak köszönhetően, amely retró bodyba sodorja a lányt, de soha nem érzi magát kopottnak [...] A Catfights and Spotlights egy lánycsapat átmenetének igazi tükre a sekély popsztárságból a teljes előadói pályára”. Lucy Davies, a BBC Music munkatársa úgy találta, hogy az album „olyan határt kelt, mint egy Kate Moss Rimmel-reklám, csupa fémes, éles-biztos és okos”, és hozzátette: „A Sugababes hangzásával mindig is az volt a baj, hogy egyensúlyt tartottak a keveredés és az egyéniség megőrzése között, és ez itt összességében sikerült is nekik.” A Digital Spy és Nick Levine megjegyzi, hogy „mellowoter” és „C. klasszikus hangzású, mint a korábbi Sugababes-lemezek, rengeteg vonóssággal és feltűnően hiányzik a szintetizátor, de nem kevésbé csiszolt és kereskedelmileg gondolkodó.” A Popjustice a Catfights és a Spotlights „a legteljesebb” Sugababes-albumnak nevezte az első albumuk óta.”

GIRLS A brit Sugababes lánycsapat dala a Catfights and Spotlights (2008) hatodik stúdióalbumához. A forgatókönyvet Keisha Buchanan, Anna McDonald és Nicole Jenkinson mellett írta, míg a produkciót Si Hulbert és Melvin Kuiters irányította. A dal 2008. október 6-án jelent meg a Catfights és a Spotlights vezető kislemezeként. A dal az amerikai énekes, Ernie K-Doe "Here Come the Girls" (1970) interpolációjára épül. A minta felvételének köszönhetően Allen Toussaint dalszerzőként is szerepel.

NO CAN DO A brit Sugababes lánycsapat dala hatodik stúdióalbumukról, a Catfights and Spotlights-ról (2008). Írta: Jason Pebworth és George Astasio (The Invisible Men), Jon Shave és VV Brown, producere pedig a The Invisible Men Si Hulberttel együttműködve. A dalt 2008. december 19-én adták ki az Egyesült Királyságban és Írországban az album második és egyben utolsó kislemezeként. A „No Can Do” egy popdal az R&B és a soul hatásaival. Tartalmaz egy mintát Sweet Charles Sherrell "Yes It's You" című dalából, és a Motown zene és a The Jackson 5 által előadott dalok hatásait tartalmazza.
A dal vegyes értékelést kapott a kritikusoktól, akik ambivalensek voltak a Motown hatást illetően.
